How Is SEE GPA Calculated?
SEE GPA uses a credit-weighted average. Each subject's grade point is multiplied by its credit hours, the weighted points are added, then the total is divided by the total credit hours. Subjects with more credit hours carry more weight in the final GPA.
The formula is: GPA = Sum of (grade point × credit hours) / Total credit hours.
Each subject's grade point comes from your combined theory and practical marks. Theory carries 75 percent weight for most subjects. Practical carries 25 percent. Compulsory Mathematics has no practical component. Computer Science uses a 50/50 split. The tool converts your marks to a percentage, assigns a grade point from the SEE grade table, then combines the points weighted by credit hours.
Here is an example. A student takes 7 subjects and receives these grades: English A+ (4.0), Nepali A (3.6), Maths A+ (4.0), Science B+ (3.2), Social Studies A (3.6), Optional I B+ (3.2), Optional II A (3.6). Step one: multiply each grade point by its credit hours. English, Nepali, Maths and Science each carry 5.00 credit hours; Social Studies and both optionals carry 4.00. 4.0 × 5.00 + 3.6 × 5.00 + 4.0 × 5.00 + 3.2 × 5.00 + 3.6 × 4.00 + 3.2 × 4.00 + 3.6 × 4.00 = 115.6. Step two: divide by the total credit hours (32.00). 115.6 / 32.00 = 3.61. The final GPA is 3.61, which maps to an A+ grade in the overall grading scale.

SEE Grade Point Table
SEE follows an 8-band grading scale. The grade points and percentage ranges are shown below.

The grade table above follows the official NEB letter grading system described by the National Examinations Board.
The overall GPA maps to a different grade band than individual subjects. A subject-level GPA of 3.6 earns an A. But an overall GPA of 3.61 to 4.0 earns an A+ on the overall scale, while an overall GPA of 3.21 to 3.60 earns an A. Subjects Included in SEE GPA Calculation
SEE students take 7 subjects: five compulsory subjects plus two optional subjects. Here are the standard subjects with their theory and practical credit hours.

Mathematics is the only subject with no practical component. All other subjects include practical work that counts toward the final grade. You must score at least 35 percent in theory and 40 percent in practical to pass a subject. Failing either component results in an NG grade.
Optional subjects vary by school. Common choices include Computer Science, Accountancy, Economics, Geography, History, Health and Population Education (HPE/EPH), and Technical and Vocational subjects. Computer Science uses a 50/50 theory-practical split instead of the standard 75/25.
Computer vs Non-Computer Stream
SEE students follow either a computer stream or a non-computer stream. The difference affects which optional subjects you take.
Computer stream students take Computer Science as one of their optional subjects. Computer Science uses a 50/50 split between theory and practical marks, unlike the standard 75/25. This changes how the subject grade is calculated because practical marks carry more weight.
Non-computer stream students take two optional subjects from other disciplines such as Accountancy, Economics, Geography, History, or HPE. Both optionals follow the standard 75/25 theory-practical scheme.
Both streams calculate GPA the same way: multiply each grade point by its credit hours, add the weighted points, and divide by total credit hours. Both streams take the same seven subjects; the only difference is the optional subjects you choose. The calculator handles both cases. Add or remove subjects to match your exact subject set.
Minimum GPA for Class 11 Admission
Your SEE GPA determines which Class 11 stream you can join. The National Examination Board sets minimum enrollment criteria for Grade 11. The requirements differ by stream.

Science is the most competitive stream. The NEB minimum is 2.0, but colleges in Kathmandu Valley often set higher cutoffs, especially for guaranteed admission. Management programs look at your Mathematics and English grades along with the overall GPA. Humanities and Education streams have the lowest thresholds but still require passing grades in all subjects.
