This online Nepali date converter converts dates between Bikram Sambat (BS) and the Gregorian calendar (AD). Use it to convert a Nepali date to an English date, convert an English date to a Nepali date, check a date of birth, or prepare a date for an application, official record, education document, travel form, or everyday date check.

How to Use the Nepali Date Converter

Convert Nepali Date to English Date

  1. Select the BS to AD tab.
  2. Choose the Year, Month, and Day of your Bikram Sambat date.
  3. Click Convert to AD.
  4. Review the English Date (AD) and day of the week.
  5. Use the copy button to copy the result in YYYY-MM-DD format.

Convert English Date to Nepali Date

  1. Select the AD to BS tab.
  2. Choose the Year, Month, and Day of your Gregorian date.
  3. Click Convert to BS.
  4. Review the Nepali Date (BS) and day of the week.
  5. Copy the formatted result if needed.

For BS dates, the available Day options adjust to the selected Nepali month. This helps prevent invalid dates because Nepali months can have different lengths. If you leave a required field empty, the converter asks you to select the year, month, and day before continuing.

Use Today to view the current Nepali and English dates based on the Asia/Kathmandu timezone. Use Clear to reset the fields and start again.

What the Result Shows

The converter provides the following information:

  • English Date (AD): The Gregorian equivalent of the entered BS date.
  • Nepali Date (BS): The Bikram Sambat equivalent of the entered AD date.
  • Day of the week: The weekday for the converted date.
  • YYYY-MM-DD: A copy-friendly format for digital records, applications, and forms.

BS to AD and AD to BS Conversion

This tool supports both conversion directions.

Use BS to AD when you have a Bikram Sambat date and need its Gregorian equivalent. For example, you can convert a date from a Nepali citizenship document into the AD format required by an international application.

Use AD to BS when you have a Gregorian date and need the corresponding Nepali date. This can help when checking an English-language deadline, event date, or record against the Bikram Sambat calendar.

What Is Bikram Sambat (BS)?

Bikram Sambat (BS) is the calendar system commonly used for official and everyday date references in Nepal. BS dates appear in Nepali government, identity, education, financial, and everyday records, while many international forms and systems require Gregorian dates.

AD, or Anno Domini, refers to dates in the Gregorian calendar, which is widely used internationally.

The Nepali calendar has 12 months:

MonthNepali Month
1Baishakh
2Jestha
3Ashadh
4Shrawan
5Bhadra
6Ashwin
7Kartik
8Mangsir
9Poush
10Magh
11Falgun
12Chaitra

BS and AD use different calendar systems. Their years also begin on different dates, so an exact conversion requires the year, month, and day rather than a simple year subtraction.

How the Conversion Works

The converter uses a reference date together with the BS calendar's year-by-year month lengths.

The reference point is:

BS 2000 Baishakh 1 = AD 14 April 1943

For a BS to AD conversion, the tool calculates the number of days between the entered BS date and this reference date. It uses the calendar table to count the days in the relevant BS years and months, then applies that day offset to 14 April 1943.

For an AD to BS conversion, the process works in reverse. The converter finds the corresponding day offset and identifies the BS year, month, and day for that date.

The calendar table covers BS 2000 through BS 2099. The calculation uses whole-day arithmetic, so no rounding is involved.

The Today feature uses the Asia/Kathmandu timezone when determining the current date.

Supported Dates and Formats

This Nepali Date Converter supports:

FeatureSupported Details

AD year selector1944 to 2043
Conversion directionsBS to AD and AD to BS
Weekday resultYes
Copy formatYYYY-MM-DD
Today featureYes, based on Asia/Kathmandu
Bulk conversionNo

For AD to BS conversion, the year selector provides 1944 through 2043. The conversion table's reference point is 14 April 1943, corresponding to BS 2000 Baishakh 1, but 1943 is not available as a selectable AD year in the current interface. The available calendar table extends through approximately early 2043.

Results can be copied in the YYYY-MM-DD format for use in digital records, applications, and forms.

Nepali Date Conversion Examples

Example: BS to AD

Input: BS 2082 Baishakh 1

This conversion is useful when an English-language document provides an AD date and you need its Nepali calendar equivalent.

Additional verified examples include:

InputConverted DateDay

AD 20 May 1990Jestha 6, 2047Sunday

For example, if a document lists your date of birth as BS 2049 Falgun 15, select those values under BS to AD to get 26 February 1993.

Common Uses for BS and AD Date Conversion

You may need a Nepali date converter when:

  • Converting a date of birth from citizenship or another Nepali record into AD.
  • Entering a BS date on a passport or visa form that requires a Gregorian date.
  • Checking a date from a citizenship document against an English-language application.
  • Converting dates in school or university records.
  • Checking dates found in land records or lalpurja.
  • Converting an English deadline or event date into its corresponding Nepali date.
  • Comparing historical dates recorded in BS and AD.

If you convert a date of birth and then need to calculate the person's age, use the Nepali Age Calculator as the next step.

Important Notes for Nepali Date Conversion

This converter supports BS 2000 to BS 2099. Dates outside this range aren't supported.

A common shortcut is to subtract 56 or 57 years from a BS year to estimate the corresponding AD year. This may provide a rough estimate, but it does not produce an exact date. Because the Nepali New Year begins in mid-April, a fixed subtraction can give the wrong month or day, especially near the transition between the BS and Gregorian calendar years. The month and day must also be considered.

For passports, visas, identification documents, applications, and official records, use the date converter instead of relying on a fixed year difference.

If a birth certificate, citizenship document, lalpurja, or other source record contains faded, handwritten, unclear, or conflicting information, resolve the ambiguity on the original document before converting it. The tool converts the date you enter, so an incorrect source date will produce an incorrect converted result.

For an official application, enter the converted date exactly as required by the receiving organization. If the organization has specific date-format or verification requirements, follow its instructions.

Last verified: August 2026. Conversion logic and the supported BS range (2000-2099) were verified against the tool's source code and the standard Bikram Sambat reference date (BS 2000 Baishakh 1 = AD 14 April 1943).

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert a Nepali date to English date?

Select the BS to AD tab, choose the BS year, month, and day, and click Convert to AD. The tool displays the corresponding Gregorian date and weekday.

How many years ahead is BS compared to AD?

The BS calendar is generally about 56 to 57 years ahead of the AD calendar. The exact difference depends on the date because the Nepali calendar year begins around mid-April, while the Gregorian year begins on January 1.

Can I convert my date of birth?

Yes. You can convert a date of birth in either direction if it falls within the tool's supported range. This is useful when a BS birth date must be entered as an AD date on a passport, visa, citizenship, or other form. Check the original record carefully before entering the date.

Why isn't a fixed 56 or 57 year difference enough?

A fixed year subtraction does not account for the different starting dates of the BS and AD calendar years. Because the Nepali New Year begins in mid-April, subtracting 56 or 57 years can produce the wrong month or day, particularly near the April transition. Exact conversion requires the year, month, and day.

Does the converter support dates before BS 2000 or after BS 2099?

No. The converter's BS calendar table supports years from 2000 through 2099. Dates outside this range cannot be converted with this tool.

How do I convert an English date to a Nepali date?

Select the AD to BS tab, choose the Gregorian year, month, and day, and click Convert to BS. The tool displays the corresponding Bikram Sambat date and weekday.
