What Is a Nepali Age Calculator?

A Nepali age calculator determines your age using the Bikram Sambat (BS) calendar. This is the official calendar of Nepal. Government documents, citizenship certificates, school records, and legal forms in Nepal use BS dates. International age calculators work with the Gregorian (AD) calendar only. They cannot calculate age correctly from a Nepali birth date because BS months have different lengths that change from year to year.

This calculator handles both systems. You can enter your date of birth in BS or AD. It converts automatically and shows your age in years, months, and days. The result includes total months, weeks, days, and hours lived, plus how long until your next birthday.

People use this tool for:

  • Citizenship applications that require exact BS age
  • SEE and NEB exam forms
  • Lok Sewa Aayog job application age verification
  • Passport and visa applications
  • School admission age checks
  • Bratabandha and marriage age verification

BS vs AD: What Is the Difference?

Bikram Sambat (BS) is the official calendar of Nepal. It is approximately 56 years and 8 months ahead of the Gregorian (AD) calendar. The BS year begins in mid-April, not January. This means the year offset shifts depending on the month. Before Baishakh 1 (mid-April), the BS year is 56 years ahead of AD. After Baishakh 1, it becomes 57 years ahead.

Your age in years stays the same across both calendars. The difference is in the calendar year numbers and the month-day alignment. The Nepali date of birth printed on your citizenship certificate is your official age reference for government purposes in Nepal.

How to Calculate Your Age in Nepali (BS)

  1. Choose your input mode. Select BS Date if you know your Nepali birth date. Select AD Date if you only know your English birth date.
  2. Select your date of birth. Pick the year, month, and day from the dropdown menus. The day options adjust automatically based on the selected month and year.
  3. Click Calculate Age. Your age appears in the result panel. It shows years, months, and days in large text, plus total months, weeks, days, and hours.
  4. Check your next birthday. The tool shows how many months and days remain until your next birthday.

No need to convert dates manually. The calculator handles BS-to-AD conversion in the background using the BS month lengths built into the tool.

Running Age vs Completed Age in Nepali

Completed age (पूरा उमेर) is the number of full years you have lived since your birth. You gain a year on your birthday each year. If you were born on Bhadra 15, 2055 BS and today is Bhadra 10, 2083 BS, your completed age is 27 years because your birthday this year has not happened yet.

Running age (चल्दो उमेर) is the year of life you are currently in. It is always one number higher than your completed age. In the same example, your running age would be 28 years because you are living through your 28th year.

Most government forms in Nepal ask for completed age. Lok Sewa Aayog vacancies sometimes specify requirements in running age. An advertisement might say "minimum running age 21, maximum running age 35." If your completed age is 34, your running age is 35, which means you may still be eligible for a 35-maximum post. Check each vacancy notice carefully to know which age format they use.
