Enter your NEB subject grades or marks and get your weighted GPA in seconds. The calculator uses the NEB weighted formula: GPA = sum of (Grade Point × Credit Hours) divided by total credit hours. Switch between GPA Input mode and Mark Input mode.
What Is an NEB GPA Calculator?
An NEB GPA calculator computes the Grade Point Average for students who sat for National Examinations Board exams in Nepal. Class 11 and Class 12 students use it to calculate their weighted GPA based on NEB credit hours. Each subject carries a specific credit value. English carries 4 credit hours, Nepali carries 3, and optional subjects carry 5. The calculator accounts for these differences and gives a weighted average.
Students use an NEB GPA calculator for these purposes:
- Estimating their GPA before NEB publishes the official result
- Checking whether they meet the minimum GPA requirement for a scholarship
- Calculating GPA for university admission applications (TU, KU, PU, and others)
- Tracking academic progress across Class 11 and Class 12 examinations
- Verifying the GPA calculation on their official NEB transcript
How NEB GPA Is Calculated
NEB uses a weighted grading system. Each subject has a fixed credit hour value that reflects its weight in the curriculum. Grade points and credit-hour totals follow the National Examinations Board grading directive. The formula is:
GPA = Σ(Grade Point × Credit Hours) ÷ Total Credit Hours
Each letter grade maps to a fixed grade point. The table below shows the NEB grade-to-point conversion.
| Letter Grade | Grade Point | Percentage Range | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| A+ | 4.0 | 90% - 100% | Outstanding |
| A | 3.6 | 80% - 89% | Excellent |
| B+ | 3.2 | 70% - 79% | Very Good |
| B | 2.8 | 60% - 69% | Good |
| C+ | 2.4 | 50% - 59% | Satisfactory |
| C | 2.0 | 40% - 49% | Acceptable |
| D | 1.6 | 35% - 39% | Below Average |
| NG | 0.0 | Below 35% | Not Graded |
The grade table above follows the official NEB letter grading system described by the National Examinations Board.
Each subject splits into theory and practical components. The standard split is 75% theory and 25% practical. Some subjects use a 50/50 split. You must score at least 35% in theory and 40% in practical to pass a subject. Failing either component gives an NG grade for that subject.
Here is an example calculation. A student takes three subjects: English (4 credit hours, A+), Nepali (3 credit hours, A), and Optional Physics (5 credit hours, B+). Step one: multiply each grade point by its credit hours. English: 4.0 × 4 = 16.0. Nepali: 3.6 × 3 = 10.8. Physics: 3.2 × 5 = 16.0. Step two: add the results. 16.0 + 10.8 + 16.0 = 42.8. Step three: divide by total credit hours. 42.8 ÷ 12 = 3.57. The final GPA is 3.57, which maps to a B+ grade.
Two Input Methods, One Result
This calculator offers two ways to enter your NEB subject data. Both produce the same weighted GPA result.
GPA Input mode. Select a letter grade (A+, A, B+, B, C+, C, D, or NG) for the theory and practical components of each subject. The tool uses the grade point value without conversion. This mode is faster when you already know your letter grades from your NEB transcript.
Mark Input mode. Enter your theory marks and practical marks for each subject. The tool converts them to letter grades using the percentage thresholds in the grade table above. It checks the passing criteria for both theory and practical components before assigning a grade. Use this mode when you have your subject-wise marksheet but have not calculated the letter grades.
| Feature | GPA Input Mode | Mark Input Mode |
|---|---|---|
| Input type | Letter grade dropdown | Numeric marks (theory + practical) |
| Best for | Known letter grades from transcript | Raw marks from result sheet |
| Auto-pass check | No (grade already determined) | Yes (checks 35% theory / 40% practical) |
| Grade conversion | Not needed | Automatic based on percentage |
| Subject scheme | 75/25 or 50/50 for optional subjects | 75/25 or 50/50 for optional subjects |
Switch between modes at any time. Switching modes clears the current result, so recalculate after you switch.
NEB Grade Point Reference
Here are the subjects pre-loaded in this calculator, with the theory and practical credit hours each carries. Add any other subject and choose a 75/25 or 50/50 split.
| Subject | Theory Credit | Practical Credit | Total Credit Hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Compulsory English | 3.00 | 1.00 | 4.00 |
| Compulsory Nepali | 2.25 | 0.75 | 3.00 |
| Social Studies / Life Skills | 3.75 | 1.25 | 5.00 |
| Optional Subject (e.g., Physics) | 3.75 | 1.25 | 5.00 |
Total credit hours across all subjects determine the weight each subject carries in your final GPA. Subjects with higher credit hours affect your GPA more than subjects with lower credit hours.
When You Need an NEB GPA Calculator
NEB GPA matters for several decisions after Class 11 and Class 12 results. Here are the most common situations.
Scholarship applications. Many colleges in Nepal set a minimum GPA cutoff for merit-based scholarships, often around 3.6 GPA. Meeting this threshold normally qualifies for full or partial tuition waivers, though exact cutoffs vary by institution. Calculate your GPA ahead of time to know which scholarships you can target.
University admissions. Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University, Pokhara University, and Purbanchal University all require your NEB GPA for admission into bachelor programs. Competitive programs like Medicine, Engineering, and IT set minimum GPA thresholds in their entrance criteria.
Study abroad applications. Universities in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, and India ask for your NEB GPA or its equivalent. You can convert your NEB GPA to a 4.0 scale using the calculator's international GPA display for reference.
Job applications in Nepal. Some private sector companies and NGOs request your NEB GPA as part of the application process. Fresh graduates submit their Class 12 GPA alongside their bachelor degree transcripts.
Personal tracking. Students waiting for NEB results can estimate their GPA before the official publication. This helps with early planning for college applications and scholarship deadlines.
